Green Day is an American punk rock and punk rock band consisting of three members: Billie Joe Armstrong (guitar and vocals), Mike Dirnt (bass and backing vocals) and Tré Cool (drums and backing vocals)

The group originally from Berkeley, California, was born prematurely in 1986 under the name Sweet Children, with drummer John Kiffmeyer (better known as Al Sobrante). In 1989 they changed to the current name and shortly after the release of their first studio album (39 / Smooth), Tré Cool replaced Al Sobrante.
It was one of the groups that were born in the club 924 Gilman Street, site that frequented local bands of punk rock. His first publications were realized through the independent record label Lookout !, thanks to the successful sales of his first discográficos works, was obtained an important amount of admirers. A few years later, in 1994 the group signed with Reprise Records, with this label released the acclaimed Dookie. With this new album the set brought the sound of the late 1970s to the new generation, in addition, the album became an international success and has sold over twenty five million copies worldwide.
Green Day along with other bands like The Offspring and Rancid were the ones that produced the revival and popularization of the main interests in the punk rock in the United States, as of the same culture, the massive sales produced the opening of a wave of groups Pop punk and punk metal. Ten years later, many of these sets are inactive or dissolved, while Green Day is still in the forefront of music with the American Idiot rock opera and 21st Century Breakdown of 2004 and 2009 respectively, both with a Grammy Award for best rock album. They edited a trilogy of albums entitled One !, Two! And Tré !, released in September, November and December of 2012, respectively.3 Their latest album, Revolution Radio, went on sale on October 7, 2016.
The American ensemble has sold around 87 million copies worldwide. And more than 35 million in its own country. In 2010 a theatrical adaptation of the American Idiot album was released on Broadway, the musical was nominated for Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Stage Design, and received general positive comments. In mid-2011 Kerrang! Named them as the second most influential group to emerge in the last thirty years, just behind Metallica. According to a public survey, in the bi-weekly publication of Rolling Stone, Green Day was chosen as the best set of punk in history.
